Book Overview:
This is a comprehensive collection of the tea ceremony culture in Ishikawa, consisting of two volumes: the Practical Edition and the Historical Edition. The Practical Edition, spanning 188 pages, begins with a photo spread of a tea ceremony hosted by Mr. Sousui Oshima, the representative director of the Ishikawa Prefecture Tea Ceremony Association. It includes roundtable discussions and interviews with instructors who serve as hosts in tea rooms and sencha rooms, as well as confectioners, chefs, art dealers, and architects. The Historical Edition, with 168 pages, features a roundtable discussion titled "The Future of Tea Ceremony" with Mr. Masaki Aoyagi, director of the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of Art, Ms. Yuko Hasegawa, director of the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and Mr. Soken Nara of the Urasenke Tea Ceremony School. In addition to explanations by curators and university professors on the footsteps of the Kaga lords and modern tea masters, the origins of the Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Grand Tea Ceremony, there are also illustrations and a chronology. The headmasters of the Omotesenke and Urasenke schools, and Mr. Toshihiro Maeda, the 18th head of the Maeda family, contributed opening remarks. The production was supported by the Ishikawa Prefecture Tea Ceremony Association and others.
